LEARN FactSheet(eLearning Courses)

The GS1 Training and Education Team, together with MOs throughout the world, is working to develop courses that are designed to meet the changing requirements of the GS1 Community.

What is the elearning solution?
The eLearning solution in LEARN helps you deliver self-directed, interactive training based on Adobe Flash Technology. It is cost effective solution and it provides immediate skills transfer. The courses are available to all MO's and maybe translated for thier local use, In this way we aim to ensure global reach.

The new elearning certification:
A new eLearning certification called "Barcodes Certification" has been introduced. It comprises of 7 new courses namely:
  • - Intoduction to GS1(replaces Basic Concept)
  • - Bar Code Print Quality(replaces Print Shop)
  • - GS1 Bar Codes
  • - GS1 Application Identifiers and ID Keys
  • - GS1 Bar Codes Applications - Trade Items
  • - GS1 Bar Codes Applications - Logistics Units
  • - GTIN Allocation rules.
  • Students passing sucessfully the 7 new modules will be awarded a Barcode Certification.
  • The elearning courses currently available are:
  • Introduction to GS1
  • The Introduction to GS1 LEARN module provides an understanding of GS1, the standards it supports and the way those standards are implemented in Global Supply Chains.
  • Bar Code Print Quality
  • This eLearning course provides an overview of printer related implementation issues of the GS1 Barcodes. The course covers: selecting a symbology, Appropraite colour combinations, Barcode Placement and BarCode verification.
  • GS1 BarCodes
  • This eLearning course aims at providing an understanding of the GS1 BarCode Symbologies. Each of the GS1 endorsed symbologies (EAN/UPC, ITF-14, GS1-128, Databar, DataMatrix and Composite) is covered in its own sub-section, The course also covers high level usage of each symbol type and links to 'Selecting a Symbology' in the Bar Code Quality.
  • GS1 Application Identifiers and ID keys
  • This eLearning course aims at providing an overview of the GS1 Identification Keys and the GS1 Application Identifiers. GS1 Application Identifiers provided the 'Data Dictionary' for GS1 Bar Code data and are the foundation of all applications beyond the GTIN.
  • GS1 BarCode Applications - Trade Items
  • This eLearning course aims to show how the GS1 Bar Codes are used to provide 'retail sloutions' for barcoding point of sales items. The course is expanded to show further applications in Supply and Healthcare Chains using Application identifiers and GS1 Barcodes together. The course closes by showing how the use of GS1 BarCode standards can provide a foundation for additional GS1 products.
  • GS1 BarCode Application - Logistics Units
  • This eLearning course aims to show how the GS1 Application identifiers and GS1 Barcodes are combined to provide business applications. The focus of this course is the use of GS1 Bar Code standards in the supply chain. In particular the GS1 Logistic Label is covered in more detail.
  • GTIN Allocation Rules
  • GTIN Allocation, with a particular focus on Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Healthcare, is one of the core competences of GS1. this module provides the student with a sound foundation of the core principles of GTIN Allocation for all industries and provides detailed worked examples and links to additional support tools.
  • Basics of EPC
  • This eLearning course is the first course in the EPC eLearning suite. It Provides introduction to the concepts of RFID, EPC and the EPCglobal Network, followed by basic technical information. The course also shows some of the benefits of RFID and the EPCglobal Network, with a special focus on end-consumer benefits. Last but not least, the couse provides examples of implementation and the steps to follow to conduct an EPC project.
  • Basics of eCom
  • This eLearning course is an introductory module to ore detailed courses in the area of eCom. It provides a basic understanding of the Electronic Data Interchange concept, basic technical aspects of EDI, such as communication channels, tools used for EDI, security, etc. The couse also provides an introduction to GS1 messaging, GS1 eCom standards and the GS1 standardisation and development process related to the eCom area.
  • Basics of EANCOM
  • This eLearning course provides basic information about EANCOM - one of the two main GS1 standards for eCom. It explains the relationship between EANCOM and EDIFACT and the specific features of EANCOM as a subset of EDIFACT. It also provides the introduction to EANCOM messaging, EANCOM versions, thier limitations and scope. It explains the use of the EANCOM Manual and the other accompanying documentation. The module also contains information about EANCOM security.
  • Developing and Implementing EANCOM
  • This advanced eLeaning training aims to help you learn more about how to develop and implement EANCOM. The standards maintenance and development processes are explained as well as guidelines for implementation processes. General overview of security issues and interchange methods- X.400 and AS2 - are also presented.
  • GDSN
  • The Global Data Synchronisation Network module covers the key details of the certified data pools and the Global registry as well as the basic principles of thier interoperability within the Network. The benefits, meaning and terminology of data synchronisation including the flow of data bare explained in detail.
  • Data Accuracy
  • This eLearning course provides an in-depth understanding of the processes to be applied and the rules to be followed to ensure accuracy of "trade items" data. This is particularly important if this data is communicated to trading partners through GDSN or other data exchanges technologies.
  • Basics of GPC
  • This eLearning course is an introduction to GPC. You can learn about:
  • - What GPC is ?
  • - How to use the GPC hierachy to find the Brick ?
  • - What the role of GPC in GDSN is ?
  • - How GPC fits with other GS1 standards?
  • You will also discover how to access, browse and search the GPC schemas online.

    THE RAPID ELEARNING COURSES CURRENTLY AVAILABLE ARE:
  • Introduction to GS1 DataBar
  • This course covers the basics of the GS1 DataBar symbology and defines the business and technical requirements. It also gives an introduction to the GS1 DataBar family and explains how the GS1 DataBar symbology fulfils the above mentioned requirements. The course is available on the Learn Library: in the Barcodes - Training Course Section. To view the course unzip it and run player.html.
  • Introduction to GSMP
  • This rapid e-learning course is designed to present you with the bascis of GSMP. What it's all about, how you can be involved and partipate, how your company benefits, and finally how this process works. The course is available on the Learn Library: in the GSMP- Training Course Section. To view the course unzip it and run player.html.
  • what is the difference between elearning and rapid elearning:
  • eLearning
  • An eLearning course requires betweeb 2 and 6 hours to be completed, depending upon the students language skills and prior knowledge of the course topic. eLearning courses include questions and tests and often lead to a certificate..
  • Rapid eLearning
  • A Rapid eLearning couse is a course developd in a simplified format (automated presentation with voice over) witha shorter study-time (around 1 hour to be completed). These courses do not include questions and tests and therefore do not lead to certification.
  • how to register on learn?:
  • Acess to LEARN is available directly at http://learn.gs1.org/portal3/index.asp?int_face_lang=112 or by clicking on the "Training and Education" tab in the "Quick links" menu of the GS1 mo homepage. To request a course, you need a Learn student profile.

  • If you dont have a LEARN profile:
  • 1 - Select "Register Full Acess to LEARN"
  • 2 - Fill in the requested information in the form and click on "Submit".
    You will recive a confirmation of your login and password in your mailbox.
  • 3 - Proceed as for registered user with a LEARN profile.
  • If you have a LEARN profile:
  • 1 - Just login in the "Login Menu" on the left side of your screen.
  • 2 - Click on "Request New Courses".
  • 3 - Select the requested course(s) and "Submit" your request.
    An Access confirmation will be sent within 24 hours.
  • 4 - Click on "My Courses" tab in the left part of your screen.
  • 5 - Run the selected course(s) by clicking on "Start"
    You can chooose the language of the course in the language scroll down list under the title of the course..
